This class and final project has taught me about evidence-based practice and the research done to test theories and better patient care. I have done research in previous classes, but it wasn’t to this extent or about a topic I really cared about. This paper and the information I’ve learned is something that I would want to take with me in my future career as a nurse. I believe that implementing animal-assisted interventions (AAI) into practice has the potential to enhance and better a patient’s stay in the hospital. I truly believe that care should be holistic and not just surrounding the cure of a disease or problem. Mental health is vital and I want to do what I can to help my patients in emotional ways along with physical.
As a new nurse, I will have a ton to learn. I know that I’m not an expert when it comes to quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives, but I have an insight and I can continue to grow. I feel more confident in my ability to form a research question and the help to seek to get a project rolling. I know this isn’t something I can do alone and that is why group work is so important. I feel as though I have always been a helpful part of a team and I like to give it my all. I never want to be the person who is known to slack off or who doesn’t care. I have found I can try and do more than my share and get everything done. I have been working on this and making sure I don’t do more than the rest of the group, to allow everyone equal participation.
I will continue working on group dynamics and doing my part in the best way I can. I’m also hopeful that I can use this paper to help me as a practicing nurse. I would love to implement AAI into my nursing care and learn even more about it. I also want to thank my group for the work they have all done and I hope we are able to work together in the future.
