Preparing for Transition

I’m super excited for my last semester and graduation, but I’m equally nervous! College feels like it’s flown by and dragged on at the same time. I am looking forward to not having grueling semesters as I practice as a registered nurse, but I know the learning never stops. I feel particularly anxious about applying and getting the job I want. My dream is to work in pediatrics or in the NICU. I know that these positions normally require experience, but I’m still going to give it my all and apply for what I really want. I cannot expect anything, but I’m hopeful. I plan to give this last semester my very best effort, as I always have, while working to get my first nursing job!

When I graduated from high school, I felt like it was silly to have a graduation party and celebrate my achievements, because it was “just high school”. However, college is a big deal especially since I’m the first one in my family to go. I want to celebrate this one and be proud of myself for the hard work and dedication I’ve given to this experience. I’m a perfectionist, which can definitely have its downfalls, but it has pushed me to be my very best in nursing school. I’ve worked extremely hard, and I want to celebrate with my family and friends. I want them to know that a first-generation college student is capable and able to do great things!

Working through modules on ATI brought back some basics to school and testing that I plan to use during this semester. I’ve done well on nursing school tests and even though the NCLEX brings on stressful thoughts, I need to remember all that I’ve accomplished. I have test taking strategies and ways to study that are successful. I will use those same skills when it comes to the NCLEX and ATI tests. My goals for this semester follow what I’ve done previously. I want to stay on top of my work and even get ahead if possible. I will write down all my assignments in my planner once I receive the syllabi for each class. I will plan work for each day that I can do, all while attending meetings and working as a tutor at SASC. I will use the SMART goals outline for each project, post, exam, etc. I will keep planning and working hard as I always do!
