Leadership

This course integrates the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviors to be a competent nurse leader

prepared to deliver, evaluate, and improve on interventions to address diverse health care needs for

individuals, families, and communities. Emphasis is placed on contemporary leadership issues including

self-awareness and the role of interprofessional communication and collaboration in the healthy work

environment.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the leadership knowledge and skills necessary for the provision of evidence-based nursing care to improve health and safety outcomes. (Clinical Judgment/ Evidence-based Practice)
  • Evaluate the role of health care technology as a mechanism to improve provision of safe, quality nursing care. (Informatics).
  • Evaluate the inherent challenges and benefits of implementing change in the health care environment for the delivery of quality and safe care for individuals, families, and communities. (Leadership, Clinical Judgement)
  • Demonstrate self-awareness, incorporating the leadership skills required to build and support the healthy work environment and the goals of the interprofessional team. (Leadership, Interprofessionalism, Self-Care)
  • Model the professional values required for leadership efficacy, including self-care. (Professionalism/ Self Care).
